Custom Printed Folding Cartons
SunTop Printing manufactures custom printed folding cartons in paperboard and cardstock for commercial orders.
Common folding-carton formats include straight tuck end, reverse tuck end, auto-lock bottom, snap-lock bottom and seal-end cartons, including windowed versions.
SunTop Printing handles both offset printing and carton making for the same folding-carton order.
Custom Paperboard Boxes
Paperboard choice affects the folding carton’s stiffness and load support, as well as how the board prints, creases, folds and takes specified finishes. SunTop Printing matches the board grade and caliper to the carton size and load, the required stiffness, the printing and finishing requirements, and the board surface and coating condition.
SunTop Printing uses SBS, C1S, FBB, CCNB and white-back paperboard for folding cartons. Depending on the board grade, common specifications are 14–24 pt in thickness or approximately 250–450 gsm.
The order artwork and specified colors are printed on the production paperboard, so the effect of its surface and base color can be judged from the print itself. SunTop Printing uses sheetfed offset presses including the HEIDELBERG Speedmaster XL 106-7+L. Once approved, the physical print becomes the batch reference for printed color and detail.
For lamination, hot foil stamping, embossing or debossing, the same physical sample also includes the specified finish, placement and detail. Once approved, the sample becomes the production reference for both printing and finishing.
Folding Carton Quality
After die cutting and creasing, text, graphics and borders remain aligned with their intended positions. SunTop Printing controls registration between the printed artwork and the die-cut or crease positions within ±0.15 mm across production.
After folding and gluing, the carton forms as intended, with clean folds and a neat, secure glued seam. Glued-seam positioning is controlled within ±0.5 mm, and destructive bond checks show fiber tear in the bonded area.
For paperboard at 400 gsm and above, SunTop Printing matches the crease groove width and depth to the board specification so the folded edge remains intact without cracking along the crease.
On window folding cartons, the window opening and film remain aligned with the printed artwork; the film lies flat and the bonded area remains clean.
After creasing and folding, lamination stays bonded to the paperboard, while hot foil stamping, embossing and debossing retain their approved placement and detail, including around fold lines and folded edges. Where hot foil stamping and embossing are combined, registration to the printed artwork and fold reference is within ±0.15 mm.
Across the production run, BOBST SP 106 ER with ACCUREGISTER is used for die-cut and crease registration, while BOBST MASTERFOLD 110 A3 completes folding and gluing. ACCUCHECK checks glue lines and folding condition on the line and automatically rejects cartons with glue-line or folding deviations.
